Sensitizing Youth on Constitutional Values!

An impactful 3-day workshop on “Sensitizing Youth on Constitutional Values” was held at Visthar from August 12th to 14th, 2024. The workshop, organized for KIA Partners in India, brought together over 30 NGO leaders from 8 states. The programme aimed to equip participants with a deep understanding of the Indian Constitution and its relevance in today’s society.

The sessions, facilitated by Visthar, focused on cultivating a comprehensive understanding of the Constitution’s historical significance and core principles, analysing key constitutional values, and developing effective strategies to sensitize youth on these values. Through interactive sessions, case studies, and practical exercises, participants gained valuable insights into the Constitution’s relevance in their personal and professional lives.

Key highlights of the workshop included: 

Contextual Analysis: An analysis of the current socio-political landscape in India by Dr David Selvaraj examined recent events and trends that have impacted the understanding and application of constitutional values. 

Comprehensive Understanding: Participants delved into the historical context, structure, and core principles of the Indian Constitution in a session facilitated by constitutional expert, Prof. Mohammad Pasha.

Practical Application: The workshop explored the concepts and practical implications of key constitutional values like equality, liberty, fraternity, secularism, and justice in everyday life in the creative and participatory sessions facilitated by Visthar faculty – Asha V, Nazar P.S., Roshen Chandran, Mercy Kappen and Rajkumari Nimbale.

Youth Engagement Strategies: Participants developed creative approaches and practical tools to effectively sensitize youth on constitutional values. They also crafted concrete action plans to integrate these values into their work with young people.

Feedback from participants highlighted the workshop’s effectiveness in achieving its objectives. Participants appreciated the engaging methodology, informative sessions, and practical resources provided. They reported gaining a deeper understanding of the Constitution’s relevance in their lives and felt equipped to integrate these values into their work with youth.

By empowering KIA Partners with a deeper understanding of the Constitution, the workshop aimed to foster a generation of youth knowledgeable, empowered, and committed to the values enshrined in the Indian Constitution. This, in turn, contributes to building a just and equitable society.
